Truckee, California - June 6th, 2024

Truckee was not one of our destinations, but a pleasant stop along the way. We were going from Lake Tahoe to Lassen Volcanic National Park and stopped in Truckee along the way. We try to make travel days be more than just about getting from one destination to the next. Seeing the sights along the way is half the fun.

Once we reached the north end of Lake Tahoe, highway 89 led us north, along the Truckee River, to the town of Truckee. We’ve seen Truckee before. The first time was from the train on our California Zephyr trip (California Zephyr: Denver to San Francisco - Jan 17th to 21st, 2022). The second time was from I-80 on our drive to pick up our EKKO (Our EKKO Purchase Process). From what we saw, it looked like a cute, historic downtown area. So we made a point to stop and check it out this time.

Yes, the downtown area is lovely. We walked the several blocks in town, then crossed the railroad tracks to reach the Cornerstone Bakery on the other side. Also on the other side of the tracks was an adorable historic diner. It was too early for lunch, but not too early for a bakery.

Along with our chai lattes, Ann had a twice baked almond croissant while Keith had a coffee cake. The croissant was huge, but delicious. It had a nice filling inside. Ann had no problem finishing it, although she wasn’t hungry for the rest of the day.

Would we spend several days in Truckee? Probably not, but it is definitely worth stopping and spending an hour or two to break up a travel day.
