Backpack Training: Week 7 - Snow Flurries

BackpackTrainingWeek7P1.png

Our training hikes were close to home this week, repeating previous hikes of Metzger Farm, Big Dry Creek, Broomfield Commons and Stearns Lake. We didn't see much wildlife this week.

At Metzger Farm, the same hawk was in its usual tree. We should name it. Along Big Dry Creek trail, we did see a bobcat. Oh wait, that's a different kind of bobcat.

The trail to Sterns Lake normally has great views, but snow flurries kept them hidden during our hike that day. We could't see the mountains at all. When we got to the picnic shelter at the lake to stop for our lunch, the lake, which was packed full of geese the previous time, was now empty with no birds in sight. We didn't dawdle eating our lunch because sitting still in damp clothing just made us cold.

That is how life goes sometimes. It is the uneventful days that help us appreciate the really good days. We shouldn't complain, we had great wildlife encounters the week before. It still felt good to get out in the fresh air, get some exercise and discuss life with my buddy. Stay tuned for better stuff to come!
