Colorado Hikes 2021

We started another 52 Hike Challenge on January 1, 2021. It was a slow start, as we have only completed 12 hikes so far this year. Our rate should pick up when we hit the road on June 1st. Since we still had a valid Colorado State Park Pass, many of our hikes in the off-season have been in state parks that we missed last summer. The highlight of our Colorado hikes in 2021 was our latest hike on Gem Lake Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Hike #1: Peak to Plains Trail in Clear Creek Canyon Park, 8 miles with an elevation gain of 490 feet in four hours on January 7, 2021.

Hike #2: Country Estates Park to Stearns Lake, 9.7 miles with an elevation gain of 486 feet in four hours on January 13, 2021.

Hike #3: Rawhide Loop Trail in White Ranch Open Space Park, 5 miles with an elevation gain of 860 feet in three hours on January 21, 2021.

Hike #4: Timber to Well Gulch Loop in Lory State Park, 5.4 miles with an elevation gain of 771 feet in three hours on January 28, 2021 with our good friends Dave and Sandy.

Hike #5: Staunton Ranch, Scoutline, Marmot Passage, and Historic Cabins Trails in Staunton State Park, 8.1 miles with an elevation gain of 1168 feet in four hours on February 3, 2021.

Hike #6: Boyd Lake Trail in Boyd Lake State Park, 8.1 miles with an elevation gain of 138 feet in three hours on February 10, 2021.

Hike #7: Little Scraggy Trail in Pike National Forest, 6.2 miles with an elevation gain of 669 feet in four hours and 45 minutes with the good company of Dave and Sandy again.

Hike #8: 12 Mile Trail, Shop Creek Trail, Pepeline Trail, South Connector Trail, Cherry Creek Trail, and Beaver Pond in Cherry Creek State Park, 6.5 miles with an elevation gain of 141 in three hours on February 26, 2021.

Hike #9: Denver Audubon Nature Center to Chatfield Reservoir in Chatfield State Park, 6.4 miles with an elevation gain of 135 feet in two hours and 45 minutes on March 10, 2021.

Hike #10: Mount Galbraith Loop via Cedar Gulch Trail in Mount Galbraith Park, 5.3 miles with an elevation gain of 1168 feet in three hours on April 8, 2021.

Hike #11: South Shoreline Trail in North Sterling State Park, 7 miles with an elevation gain of 125 feet in three hours on April 30, 2021.

Hike #12: Gem Lake Trail to Balanced Rock in Rocky Mountain National Park, 8.4 miles with an elevation gain of 1837 feet in five hours and 25 minutes on May 26, 2021.

As you can see, we started off pretty well in January and February, but when the muddy trails came into season in the spring, we lost our motivation. That just means we’ll be fresh to hit the trails hard this summer! We hope you have the chance to get outside and enjoy our natural world as well.
