Website Relaunch

Announcing the relaunch of our website! This website is where we host our blog, list our gear links, and describe our Red Tail Lodge, what we call our camper van. Over the past month, we ported our website from a WordPress platform to SquareSpace.

We decided the WordPress platform no longer fit our needs. There were some technical problems that were hard to debug given the limited amount of time we had to spend on it. WordPress complicates the issue because of the half dozen plugins we had installed. Plugins are a versatile way to provide additional functionality and options. The downside is that each plugin is developed by a different person or group. That means, when there is a problem with conflicting plugins or a plugin that is causing problems, it was up to us to figure out which plugin was causing the problem and contact the appropriate person. That was not how we wanted to spend our time.

On the other hand, SquareSpace is a simpler platform. It is developed solely by SquareSpace. If something goes wrong, we have one company to contact to get it fixed. That sounded better to us.

We ported all of the content of our WordPress site over to SquareSpace. The initial port did not go perfectly, so it took us about a month to add the missing images and fix some of the links, especially links from one blog post to another. The URL for our blog posts had to change, so if you had a saved bookmark to a blog post, you will need to update it. There is now an additional “/blog” in the URL. We have also fixed the blog post links listed in the description of our YouTube channel videos. We believe everything is now fixed. If you find there is content missing, images missing, or broken links, please let us know. We will try to fix them as fast as possible.

The new website looks a little different than the old website, but all of the great content is still there. SquareSpace allows us to spend more time creating content, instead of maintaining our website. We hope you enjoy it!

If you would like to receive an email notification every time we post a new blog, then subscribe to our blog on our website (there is a subscribe button in the footer). Or you can follow us on Facebook. We post a link to each new blog post on our Facebook page.
