Medford, Oregon - June 14th, 2024

While we were at Lake of the Woods, we needed to pick up some items we had shipped to the nearby town of Medford. We made a day of it by eating lunch in town and strolling around the historic downtown area.

Friday was a day of errands. We drove an hour from Lake of the Woods down to Medford to pick up another Amazon order at Staples. Next stop was Walmart for RV toilet chemicals.

For lunch, we stopped at a food truck court. Originally, we were going to stop at the Great Eats of the Street outdoor food pod near the historic downtown area. But the Backyard Community Food Court, just a few blocks south of downtown had much better reviews. The food court was not located in a pedestrian area, but there was parking along the side. The food trucks encircled the food court, with comfortable covered tables and recorded music playing, creating a very inviting atmosphere. We both had the Doner Kebab at Al’s Mediterranean food truck. The sandwich was very tasty, although neither one of us cared for the French bread bun. The bread was toasted, dry, and crumbly. We would have preferred a pita. But the flavor of the innards made up for the bread.

We worked off some of the calories by strolling around the historic downtown area. We ended our stroll at the Buttercloud Bakery & Cafe for chai lattes along with pastries. The chais were not very sweet, which is what we prefer. Keith got a fruit tart while Ann bought a sticky bun. We saved the pastries for dessert after dinner.

Then we headed south to Home Depot for more needed parts for the Starlink install. One of the items we needed was a one foot section of 14/2 wire. Unfortunately, the smallest amount of wire Home Depot would sell us was 15 feet. No thanks. However, the friendly staff told us to try Dazey’s Hubbard’s hardware store back on the north side of town. So that is where we went. Thankfully, they were able to sell us a one foot wire.

Our last stop was a gas station. We went by one station that had a line of cars waiting for pumps. The pumps at the next station were not working, so we drove onto a third one where we were finally able to get gas. Ann went inside to use the restroom. The woman’s restroom was occupied, so she waited. And waited. And waited. Ann finally gave up, bought herself a Coke, and left. In the meantime, Keith had moved the RV three times trying to get out of people’s way. We were both a little stressed as we pulled out of the station, back into the rush hour traffic. We were ready to get out of town. We get so used to the laid back style of spending time outside of metropolitan areas, that it is a shock to our systems to go back into crowded areas.

Later that evening, we enjoyed our pastries from Buttercloud Bakery that we had picked up in Medford. They were delicious. Despite the walking we did that day, we’re sure that we consumed more calories than we burned. But sometimes you just need days like that.

Even though being in a city was a little stressful, we’re glad we took the time to enjoy it. It is much better to make the most of an errand day, instead of just driving in, taking care of business, and leaving.
